Does anyone have any crochet patterns for tarot bags. I made one just messing around with Tunisian crochet stitches. I don't remember how I made it but I might try some other patterns. Picture here. bought a whole bunch of drawstring bags at some point but I never remember which deck is in which one and the strings and always so sturdy.Ā How fun with crocheted bags! Iām hoping someone will have a pattern to share with you. Im impressed that you could make a bag without a pattern though!Ā
Decan Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 (edited) Since I sewed a few masks because of the Covid I ordered a piece of velvet and one of fabric (for the lining) to make a reading cloth (actually probably 2 because I'll have enough fabric for that). I think I'll try to make a pouch after that too. And I sew by hand, no machine! I hope it won't be a disaster, my velvet is nice (green with a little pattern they name houndstooth). katrinka Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 It'll be fine, just take your time. Don't rush it, get it right...and post pics when you finish! I made a patchwork baby quilt by hand years ago. It was tedious and slow. I don't know how the old time people managed to piece together adult sized quilts! But not having distractions like internet, movies, etc. probably helped, and quilting gives you an excuse to sit down, lol. Anyway it came out nice, both kids got a lot of use out of it. Your reading cloth will rock, I'm sure. š

Decan Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Okay guys, I sewed a bag (and a little reading cloth too) with my green velvet. Well, it's okay I'm satisfied, but I will say you all the truth š, I made some mistakes and had to sew again because I didn't make my lining correctly (actually I first sewed it on the wrong side, these sort of things...). But the result is correct for me considering that I learned lately how to sew with some YouTube tutorials (for the basics of course). Ā

The bag looks great! š I've never tried to sew velvet, I've heard it is tricky because it is slippery. Lining is so confusing tho, because suddenly it is not wrong sides together but right side on wrong side or the other way round.

Thanks for your appreciation! š I love velvet for bags and for reading cloths of course, but yes, it's all slippery indeed, and for the reading cloth it's even more difficult in order to have a flat square.

Ā Nice work š Linings are hard to start with, but get easier with practice.Ā The hardest part is making sure you have the correct sides together.Ā I once lined a skirt and ended up with the lining correct but the main fabric the wrong side out š¤¦š»āāļø that was frustrating. One day I will actually make bags for my decks.Ā One day...

Ā I had problems deciding what sort of bag I wanted to make too. I ended up having a go using some organza drawstring bags then some pretty pencil cases for a while before I made mine. I decided I liked the zip rather than the drawstring but my first attempt showed me how wrong I was lol. The bag was bigger than I wanted and such a pain to make (what with changing the sewing foot and everything). That's when I found a pattern (ish) for a pouch with a button or wrap-around ribbon. I definitely prefer this style. Not a fan of buttons though because, while they can look pretty, they can also be bulky and catch or get in the way when you put them on a shelf.Ā So I wend for a pouch style with a band you can slide the flap under to keep it closed. I even made one with a separate pocket for the slightly larger book š
LittleMissMalachite Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 Tarot Pockets, and Wraps, and, well, I call them 'outfits' or 'homes' for a small select few of my decks; my all time favorite thing to make! I use stone beads (with purpose), some for protection, some for intuition, and other various needs of myself/the deck owner. Ā Ā Ā Ā
