This is the DE-ENABLE thread concerning buying and reading of tarot.

I am unsure every time I see the box. I become sure again when I go through the cards.

Need... De... Enabling... Help... Now!

I've discovered Oriens Tarot *wistful sigh* it's beautiful.... And the Treads of Fate Weavers Tarot *drool*... But my wallet can't handle forking out that much for either deck. Not that I even need a new deck. But they're sooo pretty and it doesn't help that my TrueBlack doesn't want to play right now...

The Fate Weavers Tarot looks a bit cold, the cards look very similar from one another; for a patchwork bed-cover maybe, but for a Tarot...

Concerning the Oriens Tarot, yes I can understand your interest, but my concern is that it can be a deck overrated of which we get tired very quickly.

The Oriens and Children of Litha are on my wishlist (a thing that expands faster than the universe....). The only thing that holds me back is the shipping costs and the fact that I'm bankrupt (Corona unemployed). You all did a nice job de-enabling me from the Oriens, would you kindly do the same now also for the Children of Litha...?

Yes, of course @Nemia 🙂
I just found out the Children of Litha with Google because I didn’t know this deck, and I don’t regret not knowIng that it existed!

Well, the black borders are huge and the images in a sort of eggs in the middle of the card enlarge them even more! It gives the impression of funeral parties, don’t you think?
Otherwise I’m not sure what the images show because the only thing I can see are the black borders (they « eat » the card) and those strange ovals which make me think to Easter eggs.

Can we really read with that?

Let me know if you are definitely disgusted 😈

The Children of Litha looks very much like an art deck. Very pretty but what is the tarot substance behind it? Have you seen those minors? A fairly random collection of animals and suit symbols which you are going to try and  find deep meaning in...

If you like a deck chockfull of esoteric symbolism and keys to a higher spiritual perspective, I’m afraid this one will feel superficial. You’ll gush over how beautiful it is for a few months but the readings will feel oddly lacking. The first flush of romance is always intoxicating but it’s not long until you realise your lover picks his nose and is actually quite annoying.
It will then go in a drawer filed under ‘decks I thought were beauties but can’t get deep readings from and feel too guilty to get rid off because they were expensive.’

:classic_biggrin: I may have been a bit harsh - only because I’ve had to de-enable myself from it several times!

Totally understand! 😁 Only reason I haven't pushed the go button on it yet is the price!

So this bit

really hit home for me and made go "oh s*** that's probably exactly what I'll do" and take a good few steps back 😂

But she's right. I backed it. I have never read with it. It's ever so pretty - but it hasn't said a word to me yet. It does indeed sit in a drawer with quite a few other silent decks.

Totally off topic but - we should have a separate thread on the topic of our experiences with ‘silent decks’. It would be so much fun to hear what decks are not being cooperative for some readers. Obviously it would differ from reader to reader but I can imagine that certain decks are more prone to silence in general, than others. We can title it “Silence of the decks” 😁

Thank you all, I knew I could rely on you! I won't take them off the list YET but add a big question mark concerning the content-prettiness ratio 😉

@Raggydoll I think that's an awesome idea!

I meant to say earlier... Hi @Nemia!! 😀 Good to see you! 😁 And yes, I've now done that same big question mark with Children of Litha on my wishlist

I got completely drawn into the Kickstarter campaign of the Oriens deck because it is beautiful and many people supported it so, being new to Tarot, I thought there must be something special about this deck and I wanted in. 😊  I now have two of them. It was promoted as 'great for a beginner' so I thought it would be a good deck for me, however, I do not agree that it supports a new reader. The cards are printed on very dark purple (except for the sun card) and there are many cards that are difficult to actually see the details of the images.  I don't see a lot of symbolism in this deck and think there is a need to know what about the animals she chose to feature for each card to get the most out of this deck.

@FindYourSovereignty you make some good points. I've also just realised there's no print version of the guide book. I'm a big fan of paper and ink guide books so not having one definitely goes into the cons list!

Oh, I did think of that and forgot to add it to my post. The deck does include a pdf, but the print one I had to buy through Lulu - I want a physical guidebook that explains why the artist chose to draw a card a specific way.

Yes! Exactly that! That's one of the reasons I never bought Night Sun too. So much depth to those cards but no explanation at all, so I have no idea what I'm actually looking at!

I'd really like to hear people's thoughts about the Anima Mundi and the Flux Arcana! I'd love to get them eventually but I'm always happy to pare down my wishlist. How do they read?

Is this thread tarot-only? 😬 I've always been able to denable myself when it comes to tarot decks. Usually there's just one or two cards in the deck I like. Now I just stumbled upon a vewwy pwetty oracle deck (Nest of Light), something I don't know nothing about. But I'm afraid what doors it would open if I looked at oracle cards online. Tell me to steer away from oracle decks please!

Has this happened? It needs to happen. It would be interesting.

It's an "oracle deck". and as such, it's probably just a collection of smarmy affirmations and won't be of any practical use.
I suppose you could use it when you want to make yourself feel better, but anything from lighting candles to cocktails would be more effective.

Posting this before anyone gets any ideas. I'm not saying that people can do cocaine with any regularity and remain unscathed, but this is some lurid, sensationalistic garbage. It reminds me of those scare films they used to show us in school where people smoked joints and jumped off of buildings. Utter trash.

No that idea has yet to manifest. It was such a great title, can’t believe I forgot about it 😆 If I remember then I can put together a thread tomorrow when I’m not surfing from my phone and being constantly distracted by my lovely kids 😊

Absolutely, stay away from this one!

Or buy instead an old Doreen Virtue or something, but not this*! Respect yourself, please.

*actually no, this could be even worse. Stay away from all oracles decks!!!

Haha, fieuw! Dodged the bullet there. *ducks* What was I thinking? Who needs an oracle deck when you have access to the real deal anyway?
