This is the DE-ENABLE thread concerning buying and reading of tarot.

You can just start a thread to ask what people think - that's the only way to get balanced views. But in this thread all you'll get is rude comments.

So - Shimmering Veil - ordinarily I wouldn't even look at a deck with a name like that, but for you, I did. I wish I hadn't.  I've not been impressed by Conway in the past, and this does nothing to change my opinion - I think the art is kind of cheap and nasty, and one of the cards actually burned my eyeballs. I shall not be buying it - and you of all people know how easy it is to sell me something - even something I don't like a lot.

Surrealist. I am a HUGE fan of surrealist art. I have books of it all over the house. I even go to surrealist exhibitions - and I don't LIKE going to art exhibitions. I bought this deck with huge enthusiasm and excitement. I was monumentally disappointed. It has good card stock, though, I'll give it that.

But honestly rylla - this is not the thread to ask for sensible opinions. It's a fun thread, not one for actual advice,

What Gregory said, in regards to this thread. Do start another thread in the tarot deck area if you’re wanting to discuss it for real 😊

okay.., shimmering veil tarot…

Based on what Gregory said, I am squinting as I am opening the page…

Oh dear. Oh dear. Are we really taking about this same deck? And you are tempted by it? Really

I will pick these two examples for people to see. Because I will not bear this excruciating eye pain on my own -  Oh no - I will drag the rest of you with me!

Now that you’ve taken a proper look I will give my very honest opinion. (I apologize to the creator but they really shouldn’t have subjected us all to this!). There is a place where this art would fit in so so well:

http://museumofbadart.org

That’s where it needs to go.

And after this agony I cannot bear to google the other deck. I really can’t. So don’t buy anything. Just don’t.

OMG, Gregory and Raggydoll you are too funny! and masters of de enabling. I LOVE surrealist art, thanks for opening my eyes (for things I did not wanted to see.) But there is a reason I posted in the de enable thread.

Yes, I was thinking about opening a thread like: What is your impression about....(X deck).

I consider myself lucky. I consider most decks to fall in at least one of those categories: ugly, boring, kitschy, garish, gaudy... just to name a few I do not like.

It is rare that I think 'oh that deck looks quite ok'.

Oh. OK. Um. I don't dislike many of mine at all - probably the most vile is the Coffee.... But I am a Collector, so it is still in a drawer in my home !

I definitely impulse buy and eventually after the honeymoon ends I sell it back off. I don't feel TOO bad about this, as it encourages me to be slower in deciding to buy/back a KS, but I know the feeling of realizing 'eh, not my thing anymore'. But for space restrictions I require myself to send them on their way. Thank goodness for PayPal/Venmo and trading FB Groups!

It's just unfortunate when one receives a pretty effective spot of self-deenabling shortly after the purchase of the offending item. Good thing there are some pretty useful re-selling groups in my loc.

Watching detailed video walkthroughs can at times prove surprisingly effective in turning me off a deck, albeit unwittingly.

Oh yes, that's been my experience as well. I'll watch a flip through and see a card or two that makes me go, "...oh." 😐 So I deeply appreciate everyone who does those, as does the lack of space in my house.

Can't decide about the Notoria: tarot in light. I kind of like it but I have lots of decks so from now on I'd like to by only outstanding decks which also reads well. The pictures look nice but very similar. Not sure how it would work for reading (not that I do reading too often but being a tarot deck I expect it to do the job in order for me to consider it that it surves its purpose). I need some de-enable-ing please!!!

This one? Is this an actual card in the deck? I just did a picture search only so I’m not sure?

what is she doing with that … rod thing???
seriously?
at least the three heads have their eyes closed, the ones with open eyes look like Cyclops from the x-men. Errrrr no, please no.

It looks to me as if she is playing some kind of recorder. Incredibly I cannot FIND my copy in spite of its HUGE box.... I even know the place where I moved loads of others to fit it in, but....

The heart shape with the rod going into the mouth? She's cupped the "heart" and grasping the shaft. The technical term is fellatio. Can I say that on this forum?

Ha ha, great de-enabling! I didn't even noticed the details. Adding this to Misterei' s comment too I'll never ever look at this deck again!!! Thanks!

Ferenc Pinter? Another Lo Scarabeo deck, partly commissioned from an artist and partly cherrypicked from existing work. Some of them are very beautiful but for me, they feel a bit cold when reading with them, and by now I have come to prefer decks that were conceived, planned and executed by artists who breathe and live the tarot. Even if they're less perfectly painted than the decks by Lo Scarabeo's polished commercial artists.

Why on EARTH would you want a deck with that as Hanged man? It’s not clever, nor is it funny. And I think it shows that only the majors were made with tarot in mind, the rest is a compilation from the artists general body of work. Look at the three of discs below.. is it the three wise men who are witnessing the good work of a nun, as she is blessing the freshly baked and very giant hot cross buns? Very relatable in a reading, especially along with the Hanging snot man…

Oh! You are right in everything you say and thank you for your post.

I've seen the Hanged Man but decided I can live with it, that I could come up with an interpretation. I've seen a flip through

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O7q24QnuXc&t=780s

Some of the cards are very good and have a surreal feel to it. But just about a third of them as you brought to my attention. When I buy a deck I tend to look at the good ones. When the deck arrives I pin out the bad ones. Knowing this shortage of mine sometimes I ask here for an opinion. How nice you people bring things to my attention! Once I get aware of them I can't disregard them!

I was just about to send my order to amazon.de when it occurred to me to check this thread although I did not expect a so prompt answer. So I take it as a sign. De enabling was successful!
