Decan Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Yeah a pottery, I can really see this materia prima deck oracle like that, and the result would be great in my opinion, possibly I would be a backer there! But for an Oracle not really, why another deck finally, there are too many decks on the market!
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 the periodic tables require thinking. This is a thinking person's deck. Think about it. Think about buying a deck covered with keywords instead.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 cripes. de enabling is not permitted here, only nod nod wink wink? You are welcome to it then.

I’m sorry @AJ-ish/Sharyn. I was actually being good. I will clean up this thread shortly ( I am on my IPad). We will restore to full De-Enabling. 😉
Decan Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Actually I’m proud of myself for my last posts here, I think that I was very wicked towards the materia prima oracle! 😈

Well, then I’ll give it a go. It’s a really expensive deck that won’t give you as much as a faint tickle in your pleasure center. You’re so colorful and it is WAY too boring for you. And it won’t impress anyone. Surely you could dig up one of your old chemistry books from school and use it for bibliomancy? WAY cooler! So save yourself the disappointment and instead go into your closet and play dress up with your fabulous scarves. (Work it. Work it. YES! You’ve got it! ☺️)
Saturn Celeste Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 Ok, I've cleaned this thread up so we can do the job this thread is supposed to do! Thanks @AJ-ish/Sharyn for bringing me to my senses.

Quinn Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 I need your help, de-enable thread. I've been looking at the 78tarot Astral and the Tarot in Space, want both but can only afford one. Tarot aliens are the best aliens.

So I can take care of the 78tarot Astral: Oh boy avoid absolutely that stuff, please don't waste your money!! I just saw a few cards online but realy, really, it's HoRriDD! It looks like a deck from a bad old cartoon on aliens. The colors are raw and bad mixed, actually it just hurts the eyes and that's all. For example the green alien on the Magician card surrounded by a few flying saucers is simply ridiculous, he seems to play with plastic toys! lol don't become the laughing stock of your friends, surrounding or family by telling fortune with such a deck! And I'm almost sure that the card stock is 100% plastic!! Plus in the middle of nowhere (that the rigth expression here!) we meet a sort of kitschy doll with her green unicorn toy; and 4 white wings (or feathers?) in her hair plus a red ribbon on the unicorn tail?! No please!... Oh Gosh I just saw the back of the card! You can't see my face but I grunted in disgust! What is this back? And the large white borders above and below each of the cards!! No... Cosmonauts, medieval knights, dolls, japanese figures, manga cats, and even octopuses too!? This is not art, it is a BAD soup! Respect yourself and your health and don't order that! At least avoid it for your stomach (because here you'll have an upset stomack, it's just a question of time, but 100% sure!!)

There are some nice psychedelic, cartoony Tarots out there. These two are not it.

I made the mistake of not getting the Slow Hollar deck when I had the chance and to this day, that deck appeals to me more than the 78 Astral. There is just no sort of consistency in the deck and it is a little unnerving. The Slow Hollar appealed to me for it's use of color (or lack of) and I wish the 78 Astral had more of a space theme as opposed to just spacey cards. For what it costs, hang on to your money. That other deck looked on the boring side.
katrinka Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 This thing? https://www.78tarot.cards/78-tarot-astral Ugh. It's a scavenger deck. No consistent style, just a jarring ride past big-eyed children, mild erotica, comics, cheesecake, fifties space B movie posters, anime, and whatever else the cat happened to drag in. No matter what your style or taste happens to be, there will be cards in this deck that you find so loathsome that you won't even use this thing. All you can do is sell it or gift it to some poor unsuspecting soul. The alternative would be keeping it in the Bad Deck Decisions drawer, where the rats will set up housekeeping because you never look in there. And they will raise their little rat families and eventually TAKE OVER YOUR WHOLE HOUSE. So save your ducats and buy a nice scarf. Scarves got your parents and grandparents through times when they had no hats, but hats were mandatory. (If you're watching old movies and a character is out in the street with no hat, it's a sure indication that something terrible is happening to them.) You can't do THIS with a deck: Big scarves can even serve as clothing items, like dresses and tops. How would you do that with a deck? Medical tape?

Quinn Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 I'm going to have to be honest, even though your attempts are all admirable I don't think your effort to dissuade me from the Astral have been effective. Although it does open a question for me, how many cards does a deck have to have that you dislike before you pass over it? There are three cards with artwork in the Astral deffianatley not for me (but there are so many that do which call to me, hence my problem). The Tarot In Space I think ill buy her novel first, before the deck. If I hate the characters I wont want a deck full of them. Thank you especially for opening my eyes to the possibilities of scarves though.

Just one, if I really, actively dislike it. I don't want to see it on the table if it's that awful.

Like the Maat tarot and the Devil card. I just can’t. (And I don’t care what the artist/creators original intentions were. Some things are just not going to work for me no matter what)
Decan Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 That's true, one card can destruct a whole deck, which is something particularly difficult with some kickstarter projects when you don't see all the cards, so it's a risk. In addition I will say that for me the card stock can as well destruct a deck, and to some extent the back of the cards too. Well, maybe I'm a bit too picky?

I have returned fabulous (mass produced) decks because of lousy card stock. The backs are not AS important, but they still matter to me. I have tried for years to like the standard plaid RWS backs, but I had to settle on simply 'accepting' them. There just isn't anything to like about them, not in my opinion 🙄 So I guess I am quite picky too 😆
Decan Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 (edited) I would like to mention in this thread a deck which was one of my worst purchases: the Psycards! 🥶 Guys, you need to know more about it; this deck attracted me because of the paintings I think, but everything that isn't the paintings suck. The cardstock: it is a scandal for a deck that doesn't come from the mass market (and the deck isn't particurlaly cheap!). The cards are really really thin and the definition of the pics are bad, a Lousy card stock, there is no other word!! The backs: awful, a raw fabric plaid! The titles: enormous, in themvelves they destruct everything (while with the card stock, the quality and the backs I would say that they just destruct what remains and wasn't already destructed). I puted it in my trash after a while (why did I wait a while??)! It's natural destination was there (and I was very unhappy about this purchase). Edited August 29, 2019 by Decan

There is more than enough NOPE in that one to ruin a whole deck. 3 hours ago, Decan said: I would like to mention in this thread a deck which was one of my worst purchases: the Psycards! 🥶 Guys, you need to know more about it; this deck attracted me because of the paintings I think, but everything that isn't the paintings suck. I think that's the deck a friend of mine had back in the early 90's. I don't remember the stock being bad, but I do recall that she used to take Yes, No, Now and Never out of the deck and just use those four cards. She was perfectly capable of using the whole deck, she just didn't like to.
Decan Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 @katrinka yes, it is this one! To be fair I also read somewhere that this deck was published too by US Games (I think?) during some time, so it was the « golden age » for it because the card stock was correct I think with them. Well... the decks and their stories 🙂
