So I came home with a new deck today (Tarot Familiars, artwork by Lisa Parker) and while I was in the shop I got chatting with the shop assistant about decks with fully illustrated pip cards (like the standard RWS) and decks without illustrated pips (just a picture showing the number of the suite - e.g. 5 cups shown for the 5 of Cups). I noticed a few people talking about struggling to read for themselves, even when they find it easy to read for other people , so I thought a thread compiling some tips for that would be useful! My main trick is to treat a reading for myself as I do reading for others. As I read mainly online through written readings, that means I do my own readings the same way when I'm struggling. Hi, I've been using Biddy online to look up meanings for Tarot and sometimes look up Youtube videos for individual cards, but I was wondering if anyone knows a great website for real noobs like me to learn Tarot? xP I'm looking for free tarot guide sites, even if it's from a blogger, and cheap, but effective tarot books. But I can't read wordy or high vocabulary books...my attention span sometimes shuts off or fly away, unfortunately... As I've been poking about in the help section for readings, it's kinda been tumbling around in my head - how much of a reading is the deck giving the specific cards that will have pertinence to the person pulling them specifically, and how much is it about the cards have a universal message that anyone can pick up on based on the card title and spread position alone? Happy Pi Day! I was wondering if anyone has created a Spread based on the "sacred fraction" 22/7 or other metaphysical thought behind the digits of Pi? My first level of thought was to pull the 7th and 22nd cards. Then, I was considering a layout similar to: 1st row (centered) - 3 cards 2nd row - 7 cards 3rd row - 7 cards Any ideas on naming the slots for possible interpretation filters?

I used this last night for the first time and I really liked. It was just a fun spread and it did flow right along with the person asking the question about the possibility of a future road trip and all the cards were related to each other. it's a 21 card spread, three rows of 7 columns using the Major Arcana's and I also use the Ace's. Each column represents a different aspect of the question in the same way most other large spreads do. But, I'm finding alternative spreads of at least 9 cards to use other than the Celtic Cross and this one along with another I found based on a Kabala geometric design to be the best. FIRST, this is not a Bash-the-Querent thread. Not about questions or querents we don't want, but WHAT do you tell, or WISH to tell, first time querents to help them get the most from their reading? When you have someone who has not just been to YOU before, but maybe never had a reading? I like to tell them how I read, what I read on, and what they can expect from my reading. I encourage them to ask questions BEFORE a reading if they are unsure about the process. That's just me thought, my preference to help me and the querent. What works for you?

I don't mean this in as a criticism or pettiness. I just hope it will give people pause for thought. For many, many years, we readers have been accused of reading body language, making stuff up, preying on the vulnerable, etc. So when I see someone saying "oh, I read him last week" it feels kind of like fingernails on a chalkboard. I read cards for a client---I don't read clients, minds or people's body language or anything else other than the cards. When a reader says he or she read someone, it may seem like the "professional" expression to use, but I hope people will give a thought to how it sounds to others. Hello, I am not sure the thread is at its correct place, please move if necessary... I am Coach and use tarot in my work if the clients are ok with the images. As I like the work with parts of personalities I found a way to use my cards in inner family constellations. In that case, I do not use spreads and lie the cards down, but use them upright, standing. The client might put them the way he likes, some facing each other, some turning away from another, or some looking in the same direction. This hasn't happened to me...yet. But has anyone ever done a reading and the querent got really mad? Like a relationship reading they were in denial about? I have had the same querent ask me, more than once, about the same relationship, but never had anyone go off about how that just can't be true, but know it has happened to others. ANYONE? If so, was it about love, family, career?

So, do you think that one should A) learn the traditional definitions associated with each Tarot card (according to each major system: RSW, etc.), B) read them intuitively only, C) look at the particular associations and interpretations of each individual deck according to its author or D) apply any combination of the above? I did a quick search of the forum and didn't see anyone talking about this. Lindsay Mack runs an absolutely phenomenal tarot podcast of the same name where she goes deep with the tarot in a soul-centered way. She's absolutely wonderful at finding was to look at the cards, especially the "difficult" ones and seeing what that card is bringing to you, rather than being something that is happening to you, if that makes sense? It's a very empowering way to use tarot that really aligns with the way I work with it as well. Do you do daily draws? How accurate do you find them? I tried to do some for practice, but found them mostly hit or miss and often felt like I was grasping at straws to make them fit the actual events of the day. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or if something?
