Those boxes are beautiful! And I’m also a crocheted, I love the pouch!

Thank you for finding the video for me! 9 pages is a lot to wade through. This vid is very thorough. I just wonder if it might be cleaner/smoother if the parts were drawn as one solid piece and the sides scored for folding. :animated-smileys-thinking-36:

That was my first thought too, but I tried it and it doesn’t work. You end up with a wonky box. Plus the paper on the outside won’t sit right. But please feel free to try it yourself, I was adamant that it was the better way to go so I tried it three times before I realized that there is a real reason why she does it that way 😂

If you cut the cardboard pieces with a heavy duty paper cutter like i did and then score the cover paper you will get a really crisp result. On the video she is tucking in the outside cover to hide it inside, but that’s not how any of the professional boxes are made. So I folded it over the edge and used a bone folder to get clean edges and I personally think that looks better. Plus the edges aren’t vulnerable anymore. She had to seal hers with glue so that they won’t get damaged when she takes the deck  in and out. I’m sure I have posted pics that explain all this, somewhere in this thread 😆

My Herbcrafters tarot needed a purse, so I rummaged through my stack of fabrics until I found something that felt suitable. I went for patterned on the outside and yellow on the inside

After I had sewn it together and turned it the right way. (The exterior fabric)

Well I tried, and failed at deck boxes. I'm not feeling the talent or desire with paper craft and I pretended I never bought all that coloured paper when I threw the few failures I made out.

Howerever, I have a feeling this is all due to my untapped skill with textiles trying to show itself.

I bought silk, satin and colourfull velvets and I'm ready to try my hand at deck bags!

I abhor tuck boxes (mostly because I can't keep them nice for long) and my decks with tuck boxes count is steadily climbing. I'm at six that need new homes, it is getting desperate over here! And I cant go dropping $50 AUD per bag on professional deck bags, that is money waaay better spent on decks XD

Yes that is probably it ☺️ Can’t wait to see you tapping those skills 💜💜💜

I've made a number of one-of-a-kind boxes for different decks. Some were made because the deck didn't have a box, some were made because the box was really flimsy, some were made because I was studying the deck and wanted a special box for it, and I'm sure some were just because.

Box for the Bohemian Gothic Tarot using the Momento Mori card back as the box top

Bohemian Gothic Box 001.jpg

The Book of Kaos. The box it arrived in barely made it intact. The top is one of the two Lovers cards.

Book of Kaos Box Collage.jpg

A two part box for the Lasenic Tarot Reproduction

DSCI0002.JPG

Box for Tarot of the Absurd. I believe the box top is the back of the sleeve that the cards come in.

DSCI0005.JPG

A not-quite-flip-top/not-quite-hinged box for my Cartomanzia 184 deck. The top is connected to the base at the edge connected to  where the title is, so the whole top of the box lifts up but not off as if it were hinged to the bottom.

DSCI0017.JPG

The box my Herbal Tarot came in was badly beat up, so I photocopied the front of the box and made a cutout box box.

DSCI0186.JPG

These boxes are made out of file folders to house variations of the Tarots Egipcios, which all came without boxes.

DSCI0180.JPG

I have more boxes, but their pics weren't in the same location as these, so I'll have to find them to post them.

Well, Its been over a month since I decided to give textiles a go, and today I finally made good on my promise to myself.

The first one I made I used Boho Tarot's video using velvet. I was less than impressed with the outcome and switched to popplin and used a different method.

They are lined with silk, and even though I'm still learning I'm pretty proud of myself.

I'm quite enjoying this thread! A few years ago we lost a dear friend. She was an avid quilter (and general crafter, mostly sewing projects) and we wound up with most of her estate. I'm going through her fabric stash and finding fabrics to use for tarot bags. I'm torn between trying to keep them simple so I can just do them and get them done, and trying to make more elaborate cases to, I guess, "do justice" to the source of the fabric, if that makes sense. All the lovely versions people have shared here encourage me to think I can find a nice compromise...something basic that I can do competently, but also something that I can make pretty. 🙂

I am sorry you lost your friend. What a lovely idea to do something with her stash! I am glad you found some inspiration here, and please feel free to share anything that you feel comfortable sharing 💜

Thank you very much. She and I were friends for 25 years, and her death was part of a string of losses that...well, I had a rough few years. If I can turn any of the loss into something spiritual and positive, I definitely want to. Dealing with her estate has taught me some important lessons, some very practical, others more esoteric. One of the latter is to create, to use things rather than saving them for later or exactly the right project...she left so much of her life undone. I want to take that as a personal lesson to do more and to finish things. I think she'd be happy to know her fabric stash was being used to make things that are both pretty and used for self-development.

Sorry I rambled a bit there. I obviously have a lot of feelings about this and I'm trying to explain it without just pouring everything out in a torrent. Hopefully it made sense, though! If I do get some bags made, I will definitely post pics. Thank you. 🙂

I can relate to what you say about people leaving things undone. When my dad passed away suddenly, we found so many things of his that were unopened or unused. It changed the way I approach life. I don't make a habit of saving good things for later. I savor things as often and as much as I can!

Exactly! I have a number of lovely blank journals that I was just accumulating, waiting for the "right" thing to use them for...needless to say, I've started using them. One just became a tarot journal, in fact. "Saving this for someday" just isn't the way I want to do things now. I'm sorry about your father, but I embrace the lesson you learned.

All these bags and boxes are amazing!

Mum gave me her old Bernina sewing machine a few months ago (the same one I learned how to sew on!) It's pretty basic but it does the trick 🙂 so I've been trying my hand at making some pouches. I've completed three so far (I really should learn to measure twice and cut once lol) and every time I start one I completely forget how I made it the last time so have to figure it out all over again! Doesn't help that I'm pretty sure I've made them each a different way lol.

Anyway here's the three I've completed.

The first one (blue and purple) was my first ever pouch (not counting the one with the zip that I didn't measure properly) and I wanted the book to have a separate compartment (just to make thing difficult for myself lol) FYI won't be doing that again until I can figure out how I did it!

The second one (black and gold) houses my Froud Faeries Oracle. Took me a while to find the right fabric for them. All the stuff I wanted to use they didn't want! We ended up settling on these two fabrics I think because of the sparkly gold on both 😄

The third one (sparkly black and red) is the new home of my TrueBlack deck. I didn't realise until after I put the deck inside that I had made it a Dracula outfit lol!

I often knit my own bags for my decks. I can’t seem to be able to get a picture to upload though.

I might try making one of those boxes they look great. I have some spare cardboard to use as well. Does anyone have any crochet patterns for tarot bags. I made one just messing around with Tunisian crochet stitches. I don't remember how I made it but I might try some other patterns. Picture here. bought a whole bunch of drawstring bags at some point but I never remember which deck is in which one and the strings and always so sturdy.

Maybe you didn’t have enough posts? There is a 5 post minimum requirement for uploading pictures. Why not try again ? 😃
