A mat finish but still, the colours pop and there is no sticking ♥ The card pack thick - quite a hand full and shuffling may be a bit of a trick. ? For this quality, the price point is very attractive. ♥ I am looking forward to exploring and using the deck!♥ Is this the Hay House version?

So far I could not find anything..... I have this deck in both the Hay House version and the Kickstarter. Hay House did a wonderful job creating a mass market version. I'd love to participate in a thread dedicated to this deck.

I've seen some folks on youtube and amazon complain about the quality. It's actually available in our country though, and is on my wish list, so I am pleased that this is not the case for everyone.
bookshop Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Guys guys guys guys i can't believe i'm holding this in my hands, but looooooooook at it Apologies for the sheen, they're under a lamp light and it was hard to block out the glare completely. I might take better pictures in the morning in natural light. I can't believe it, I've spent hours and hours looking at pictures of this deck in all its variants online and I was still completely unprepared for how vivid the colors were in real life.<3 The seller I got this deck from, McClosky's, said they'd dated it to 1931, which makes it one of the oldest Grimaud variants that I know of. It's even got the French tax stamp! I feel extremely extremely lucky to have found a version of this deck that was relatively affordable, and at Christmas, no less. I'm just blown away by it. I honestly spent months and months trying to find this deck variant, in this shade of teal/blue/whatever, and omg it was so so so worth it. I feel like I could take a depth year just to get to know this deck. I could look at it forever.

Flaxen Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Wow @bookshop! Congratulations - what a beautiful deck.
ilweran Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 (edited) For Christmas I had the Forest of Precious Twigs by Tricia Murray, who also created the Wee Star Oracle. Edited December 29, 2019 by ilweran

ilweran Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 @bookshop today was my first chance to try it out as there's been so much going on. I love the Wee Star Oracle so knew I had to get this one as soon as I saw it. It is lovely and you're right about mist covered and a night out under the moon. I'm very happy with it and can't wait to use it more.
FindYourSovereignty Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 @bookshop and @ilweran, these decks are beautiful. Congratulations on adding these decks to your collections and thank you for sharing. I love seeing different decks.
Mi-Shell Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Oh, all the nice new decks everyone got!♥♥ I have to revise my Lightseer's enthusiasm a bit and opened a thread about some card stock issues in the Tarot Deck section.

I don't get the "Ancien tarot de M..." label. I have one of this deck too. The oldest version has thick card stock and comes in a box ( mine is in a textured gold box with hinged lid and red velveteen interior, and a 72 page paperback booklet). I cherish this deck so I get your excitement 🙂 Edited January 14, 2020 by rylla

(Well, actually Marteau's redrawing of the Conver, IIRC.) And it's a wonderful copy and vintage. I love the penciled notes on it! Though Belline's Tarot is quite nice too. bookshop Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 @rylla Katrinka beat me to it! The Ancien TdM is the label that was eventually permanently affixed to the specific tarot deck that was drawn by Paul Marteau and first published in 1930. https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=57491 @katrinka ahh thank you! I love the penciled-in notes too, only some of them i can't read because they're too light/worn and my french is rusty. I actually had never heard of it until I noticed @archimedea's profile icon and then went on a hunt to figure out what deck it was from, and then i became completely obsessed with finding an affordable older variant with the gorgeous lighter blue colors. I love it so muuuuuuch ❤️
katrinka Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) The lighter blue, in combination with the not-stark, aged white, really does bring out the beauty of it. It's a wonderful find! ETA: Even the linework seems to be better in places. Le Bateleur's pupils are highlighted! Compare to the one they sell now, where they just fill them in completely: Edited January 14, 2020 by katrinka

Though Belline's Tarot is quite nice too. Oh, sorrrry!!!! My superficiality! -along with my apology. I saw the top of the fool card and something written on it and the card stock looked like a thick card stock to me and all of that reminded me of the Belline tarot and I did not look at the cards in details. Of course is NOT the Belline. Great find anyway! Edited January 15, 2020 by rylla
bookshop Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 @rylla haha no worries! I don't know anything about the original owner who wrote all over the cards but I bet they'd be pleased to know their scribbling had gotten mistaken for a legitimate design! 🙂 I just wish I could read any of it, lol! What little I can make out are keywords for card meanings. Here are a few more cards from the deck, for fun. This was taken in natural lighting with all the lights off / just sunlight on a cloudy day and I can't get over how bright the colors are! @katrinka thank you for validating me, lol, I agonized over finding a deck with this exact shade of teal! I don't really understand why the newer variants switched to the darker blue. Even the recent commemorative heritage deck Grimaud just released last year just recreates the darker blue from later edtions (like the '50s on i think) that are already widely available, instead of showcasing the looks of some of the rarer and IMO far more beautiful older variants that have the lighter blue. I don't get it.
Quinn Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 (edited) So I know this is oracle, not tarot, even though it is the Deamon TAROT.. ..but it happened again. Duplicate card. I'm not happy with the card stock on these, despite what that one review on Amazon says. The card stock is too thick and stiff, the double card I got is already slightly bent. I love the 1863 artwork though, which is more important! Edited January 21, 2020 by Tagi
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Tagi, more importantly, is there a card missing? Does the book relate the 68 cards to tarot, if so what did they leave out? Unless someone tells me that cards are printed on copy machine paper, I don't take stock in cardstock reviews. We all have different preferences and shuffling methods and there must be as many options to choose from as there are deck designers. Sometimes even different printings have different cardstock. But shame on Sterling Publishing, who certainly know better, for titling it tarot.
gregory Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 I agree with AJ. I have this deck, and I find the stock perfectly fine. I guess the CREATOR gave it its title, though. Just as the Shakespeare Oracle (thus named by its creator) is actually a tarot deck.

All I have done is gone through the cards and marvel at the artwork - it is called the first impressions and unboxing thread, not an indepth review one. So excuse my mistake please.

No @Tagi all is good! Guess @AJ-ish/Sharyn just wanted to know if a card was missing. As you a double card it very well could be that an other card is missing 🙂
