Grandma my love - if you use that template to paste your card on, it will NOT be big enough to use - it will pixellate when blown up to be printed. You need to create your image at 300 pixels to the inch, with a size of 7.59 cm by 11.42 cm (or 2.75 inches by 4.75 inches). Forget about the black bit at the bottom - just make an image that size; the bosses will place it in the template for you.

But he is a nice looking chap. When did we get to take a fourth card - was I not paying attention ? not that I've finished my third, but...

Thank you gregory.  You're right about the black part on the bottom.  This is the first time I've left it on and I have no idea why I did.  But I made the card you worked on for me at 24" x 36" and sent it Raggydoll, and it was just right, so I did the same with my third card and I'll do the same with this one, which is made at 24" by 36" with the unnecessary box that I will remove and enlarge the picture to the whole previously successful size.  Oddly, there were no problems with my first card which I made at only 6" x 9".

Yes, he is good looking, isn't he?  He could be New Grandpa if he wasn't centuries dead.

The "take a fourth card" never officially opened.  Raggydoll said on Saturday in the Sign Up thread that fourth cards would be available tomorrow so on Sunday I posted that it was tomorrow and could I have my fourth card?  The answer was yes!

Edited to add that I downloaded it from the National Gallery's Open Access program, which provides royalty free and free-free art for any use, including publication.  It gets downloaded at the size and resolution for whatever use you check off on the download screen.

For my fourth card I chose the Two of Fire and here he is.  The Two of Fire is dynamic, dramatic and pragmatic in varying proportions as appropriate.  He is a confident leader who knows when to conform and when to innovate, when to forge a new path and when to walk an established track.  My vision is an old man, still vital and unique.  He has been there, done that, and is ready to capably do it all again.  And if he doesn't need to, that's cool too.  He even looks like my kind of guy!

I know, right?  EXACTLY the type of guy I go for!

And here is the actual version I will submit:

I have a whole deck that I made a few years ago completely with pictures from open access museum programs.  Maybe one day I'll get around to posting it in the deck creator's lounge.  This is my Two of Wands in that deck.

P. S. to @Raggydoll -  it's okay if the side of his shirt bleeds off or whatever it's called, I'd rather that than reduce the size of the picture.

That's great news, Grandma - I was just concerned for you. You know why   How's Photoshop coming along for you ?

Posted

I appreciate the concern gregory.  Photoshop is not coming along at all, nor are two similar and ostensibly simpler programs.  I can't even follow the beginner tutorials.  So I came up with this workaround and I'm feeling kinda smug.

May I recommend  the Dummies Guide to Photoshop ? :classic_wink: Seriously - it's awfully good !

And P.S. to you too, @geoxena - did you notice the size of his anti helix?  You know what they (don't) say you can tell from that.  Hee hee I may be old but I came of age during the sexual revolution and I'm sure as heck not dead.

Rock on, Grandma!  I'll be checking out the anti-helixes of every guy I see from now on.  😉

OMG what fun posts to wake up to!!! (I am only temporarily awake. Will be going back to bed soon 😛). But yes. Glad to see our template NOT used as template because it uploaded smaller than it should and it doesn’t work as a template. Plus we are super glad whenever we don’t have to chop anything off of the final card. So thank you @Grandma for removing that text bit and making the picture bigger for me. 🥰

Also, wow -anti helix dirty talk? Me like!! 😎😎😎

(Notice how this poor chap has no anti helix. But what he doesn’t know...)

And yes. People are now allowed a fourth card if they are certain they can finish it in time @gregory. So keep making cards for us! 😘

That's one powerful painting - I've never come across it before.

I decided to completely rework the Ace of Cups and change medium. I couldn’t get the vibrancy I wanted with the colouring pencil (this is entirely due to my lack of skill).

Here is a different version. I used acrylic paint and wanted the composition to be quite simple.

The minimalist design makes it so striking. I love it!

I love the gold against that vivid blue sky.  Yes, it would take many, many layers of color if using colored pencils to get this level of vibrancy.  Nicely done!

@Delta, the way your Universe is balancing the sun and moon is reminiscent of the Two of Pentacles.  I always love when one card references another like this.  It seems to add layers of meaning and nuance to a reading.  Looking forward to progress reports and the finished card.

@Grandma The 2 of Pentacles parallel is completely accidental, haha! But I like that it happened, now that you've noticed it 🙂

Your 2 of Fire is an interesting looking guy, strong and capable perhaps more than someone younger than him. I love the explanation too.

I'm thinking about adding a symbol for crown chakra too. The card feels a bit like a spiritual ascent, plus I also feel the need to cram in more symbols? 🙃

Symbolism: Moon and Sun, left and right, aquarius, scorpio, taurus and leo constellations as four elements, lemniscate

Colours: Dark blue, yellow, pink, purple, white
Meaning: The Universe is on your side. You are free to be as you wish. There's a balance between yin and yang. All four elements are present, earth, water, air and fire. Expansion of the mind. Spiritual wisdom. Connection with the Universe. Deep peace. Mind and body intelligence. Creativity and beauty.

Reverse: Too much of floating too high, one needs grounding and mental rest.

Dumb question: does the image come without the writing on it?

Posted

I was planning to include the writing.  I like that centuries ago a man lived who looks like he could be living today and that the characteristics that he embodied are still as real and as relevant as they were then.  I also like the museum-like scholarly effect.

I also don't want to create the impression that this is my own work.

Do you think it would be better without the writing?  What do others think?

Yes, the blue/gold combination is one of my favourite bits.

Thank you - I’m just relieved I managed to produce something. :classic_biggrin:

The cards being produced here are just amazing and all so different. I had to step away from the thread for quite a while to find my own vision. Seeing what other people were producing was really notching up my anxiety and I needed some visual ‘stillness’ to allow my idea to come through. At least now I can go through the thread and see everything that has been created so far.

Flaxen, such a calm, still chalice - the simplicity of the shapes and colours suggests the source of something primal.

Delta - I've been staring at your Universe unable to scroll down - it's hypnotic! It would be strange if it were possible to transfer that movement to the card - maybe one day perhaps. 🙂

@AraniaI really like your 10 of Swords concept!  I think it trully captures the essence of the card.

@FlaxenI too really love the contrast of the gold and blue on your Ace of Water.  The colors are really beautiful and vibrant.  Love that you included the moon :bubble_blove:

@GrandmaI really love the painting of that old man.  I have to admit when I first saw it I thought he might be a court card, it took me reading your explanation to connect him to the 2 of Fire.  I am struggling with connecting the writing on the card to the meaning of the card, and I don't think you are necessarily trying to have the writing connect but giving us that timelessness feel with it, but again that is not something I associate with the 2 of Fire.  I could totally see that writing on the card in an oracle deck.  Obviously a personal problem, so never mind me! 😆

@Deltayour Universe card is really beautiful!

@Pen your Elder of Fire is gorgeous, @Arania both your cards are fabulous! @Delta love the Universe and @Grandma great 2 of Fire.
