OK so having seen all the beautiful and so realistic looking images everyone is creating I have to say I am having a major fits of artist envy! 😆  You guys are so amazingly talented, what a gift you all have! :bubble_blove:.  I am so jealous!!!!!! (that is meant as a compliment, I am not a jealous person by nature)  With all that said here is an update on my Novice of Water which honestly does not seem like she belongs in this deck at all .....

Odds are she is going in the trash and I will start over again ...

Please don't put this in the trash! I really like her and I definitely get a Novice of Water vibe from her, which is honestly the most important part!

@Jewel Your card is the very first water card we are seeing, I think that’s why you feel like you don’t belong. Once other water cards are displayed then the energy of this deck will be much more balanced and you will realize just how well your vision fits! Do not give up on this card ❤️

Art doesn't have to be realistic to be good.  And neither do drawings of the human figure.  Take the Peanuts comic strip for example.  Immensely popular for decades, yet every character has a big round head and little bump for a nose.  But we know who's who by whatever simple squiggles are used to suggest their clothing or hair.  I was just in a restaurant which featured one particular artist's work on its menu and walls - people with pointy elbows, big heads on long skinny necks, huge eyes, eyeglasses all crooked on their faces, and so on - absolutely none of it was realistic and all of it was delightful.

Your image reminds me of that artist who draws smashed fairies, don't know her name but her calendars and books are very popular.  Your concept is great, and if you aren't happy with how you executed it you can certainly start over again (most artist's don't get their ideas the way they want it with the first try - that's why they do sketches and studies beforehand), but you don't have to.  You can just keep going and let it be uniquely you.  It's hard not to compare, but just remember that we're not competing with each other.  We're all just making our own contributions in our own styles and each one will be just as valid and integral to the whole as any of them.  Whatever you do, your contribution will matter!

@Jewel, please don’t scrap her! I really like how she looks and it is good to get a variety of styles in the deck. I’m also quite intimidated by the art everyone has displayed so far - I’m really not that great at drawing! I’ve got a first draft for Ace of Cups - very simple pencil drawing at the moment. I like how it looks in real life but hate how the photo looks. I may try and find some free software for creating a collage image instead.

I agree with Joy! The beauty of this deck is in the variation of styles. Don't compare, never ever compare - comparison is an evil but sweet-tasting poison that stops creativity in its tracks. Just keep going! Your drawing has such imagination and attitude in her pose and ears. Just put your head back down at your drawing table and plow on. And, just fyi, I find that even if I dislike a drawing in the initial stages, most times if I just stay patient with it, keep adding elements, backgrounds, etc. they somehow come together in the end in a surprising manner.

So true. I usually think that all of my drawings are crap in the beginning, but the thought of creating crappy art does not upset me any more. So I just carry on and then it takes shape and I get in the flow.

It's beautiful!  It is very much like a vintage photo postcard I bought from the Museum of the American Indian in NYC.  Is the beadwork and headdress from or based on a specific tribe?

Thank you! I drew it from a photo I snapped at the Crow Fair in Montana where I live, but changed up some elements in the clothing to simplify (because, omg, their outfits and headdresses especially are so elaborate). I also altered the features on the boy's face since I didn't ask for permission to sketch him.

You guys are all so sweet! :animated-smileys-hug-002:I ripped her up and threw her in the trash.  Not the concept just the drawing.  I have redrawn her with a different head/face, I think she is prettier, the rest of the drawing remai ns the same and I am getting ready to transfer her to the paper I will be coloring.  I think I am going to go with colored pencils instead of watercolor pencils as I have way more color choices which I think I will need.  Anyways, here is the revised version of the card:

Aww, she's lovely.  I love her expression!  You sound happier about it now, so good for you for trusting your gut on how to proceed!

@Flaxen, can we peak at your Ace of Cups pencil drawing?

Again thank you guys so much for the encouragement.

Yes I am much happier.  She still has her spunk but I find her much more aesthetically pleasing.  I think I can stick this one out and see her through

Sure...like I said I’m not too happy at how it looks on the photo compared to in the flesh. The colours look different - maybe there is a way to scan it in and digitally enhance the colours. Will have to investigate the options as this is just the first draft.

You could absolutely scan and digitally enhance the colors. If you want someone to help you then let @gregory or me know ❤️ It could be a fun thing to test and if you don’t like it then no harm done! I think your drawing is super cute! It feels very Celtic and remind me of the King Arthur stories!

Your Ace looks great!  That is one fancy chalice! As everyone has told me, do not get discouraged! :animated-smileys-hug-002:I think we are both being affected by all the emotions of the cups! 😜

Great to have you happier! And next time do not throw your sketches away please. My hubby who is a trained artist said to always keep them, use them as reference and never ever use eraser just keep drawing over it until you are happy with the shape. First I did not trust him but he is right, it helps

True! Looked too deep into those cups!

Well done @Flaxen and @Raggydoll is right, it looks very Celtic! ❤️

I have the original sketch.  I had traced her onto watercolor paper to start coloring her, it was that that I threw away.

@joy Clearly your husband uses a different technique than me because I actually create art effects with my eraser 😁 (like the details in the hair). But for most other circumstances he is probably very right 😊

These are all looking so wonderful everyone!  I'm very excited at what you all are turning out! :animated-smileys-hug-002:

I need to get sketching myself!

Yes of course if you use the eraser for highlights that is a different story. But if you try to get a certain shape right which you can not. Instead of erasing, going over it/next to/close to it, really helps getting it right 😜

I know right! I had to take my charcoal out and just jot down some lines. So at least I started! It is so inspiring ❤️
