Tarot Decks

I'm not sure I'm in the right section, but I'll give it a go: What do you consider to be the most important quality in a tarot deck? On reflection, the quality of a tarot deck that matters most to me is the possibility of projecting myself into it. The ideal tarot deck is one that everyone can relate to. I'm looking for a tarot that's universal, so to speak. That's why I'm not so keen on photographic tarot decks, or those where the characters are too typical. I prefer images where the characters are schematized. Neutral, in a way. A little ambiguity allows everyone to imagine themselves in the card.

I’m just curious to hear if anyone else has this quirky little deck, and if so - what you think of it?! I bought mine from Tarot BG earlier this year but haven’t gotten around to using it yet. But I have decided to dedicate more time to this deck in the upcoming months as I feel that it is perfect for this time of the year. In case anyone wonders, this is a limited edition deck that was created by the Italian artist Anna Maria D’Onofrio. The deck has very unusual proportions and extra thick cardstock. I am looking for a mini tarot deck that I could use on the road . My only issue I am super picky when it comes down to tarot cards . I searched for my first for more then a year and it was pure luck because I got fantastic deal . But now I need a smaller deck to put in my bag and don`t know where to start . My regular deck is Mary EL tarot ,it is great ,but it is too big to use on the road

Do you think that there are decks that are more suitable for one card draws than other decks? Or is it all on the reader? I´m just thinking!🤔

I wonder if there is any thread och site that shows backsides of all or many of different tarot decks at the same page?

I didn't want to put this in the "should I buy it?" thread because I already did buy it, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has bought it and what they think of it. I don't like great big decks with thick cardboard-y cards but I just noticed in the description when I was looking at it online a little while ago that it says something about larger cards, so I'm hoping they're not too big or cardboard-y. It's on its way here and will be here tomorrow so I'll deal with it whatever it's like, of course, but I'd still like to see some comments on it.

I got the Fool's Dog tarot sampler app, and tried one of its readings that drew on a bunch of different decks. It was .... weird. I do sometimes read with multiple decks, but with thought-out positions and complementary themes... this was just random and hard to read. Maybe a deliberately put-together one would be better, but I suspect that there'd still be some disconnect. Previously I'd been thinking of putting together a frankendeck because I so often find that I dislike particular cards. So... maybe not. I just watched a Wizarding Trunk unboxing by Cherry Wallis and one item inside was a Tarot deck, labeled The Seer's Inner Eye Tarot. It looks very much like the modern RWS-type (not exactly) but all in foiling (or similar color) on a dark card background, and gold edges. From the brief flip she gave them, I want one! But I pulled up Wizarding Trunk and they don't have it on their website, at least not yet. Has anyone else come across this yet?

I wanted to post a picture as an exemplar, but I guess I'm limited to text, but that will work as well. If any of you have never had the opportunity to hand draw a Tarot set, I would highly recommend the project for two main reasons: 1- the sheer magic of hand drawing the arcanes is phenominal. 2- you quickly realize that store bought Tarot sets have countless printing and symbol errors. A lot of the commercial Tarot sets, when looked at with scrutiny, fall short in quality control and that is disappointing. Has anyone on this forum had this experience?

I am compiling a list of Slavic decks - Ukrainian, Russian, others - looking for something to MAYBE buy later. I am also interested in Oriental decks. I have seen many beautiful Asian decks (Chinese or Japanese) but what I want is a deck with an Arabic or Persian influence. Ethnically, I am an Uzbek/Tajik-Ukrainian-Russian mix, and I would like one deck that reflects at least some part of my ancestry. I have been looking long and hard at the 1001 Nights. Have YOU ever gotten or seen a deck that viscerally repelled you? I don't mean just "nah, it didn't resonate". I mean like, "Eww. Gross, Get it away from me!" To explain: I recently got sent a deck by mistake. I tired to return it to the vendor but they never sent the return postage label -- so I finally just opened the package to have a look. I'm really loving this deck. It's bridge sized (you can do small draws in your hand, like in the photo.) It's different: there are only 64 cards. There are some changes to the Majors: the Tower is strong and undamaged, the Hanged Man is hung by the neck, there's a Ship card, etc. You can see the differences here and here. It's true! There's an edition of Shadowscapes out that is slightly bigger! The catch, though, is that it's not in English. But, it does exist - the Czech edition of Shadowscapes is bigger & gilded in gold! It's so lovely. The image in the top right shows how the card, with the borders fits right into the space the image gets on the Czech version. So, it's basically as if it was printed the same size, but borderless as for as the size of the image. Except it keeps the borders and gets loooooovely gold edges! Just wondering if anybody here uses the Tarot of Mystical Moments, by Catrin Welz-Stein. I have been tempted by this deck many times, but am not sure that I would be able to use it in readings because the images are so strange. Beautiful, but strange. I have looked at the flip-through offerings on YouTube many times and am still not sure. Recently I got this old deck from 1970s. I used to have the deck about 15 year ago. In fact they were so cheap and abundant for sale, I had a few of them. Do YOU have a perfect deck? Do you believe such a thing even exists? Over the years I've seen various newbies or even not so newbies in search of The Perfect Deck. A hero's journey like Arthur's quest for the Grail. I feel sympathy for beginners in this day and age. They might experience pressure to find The Perfect Deck to start reading. Apparently this decks been around for a while but I wasn't aware of it. I love The nostalgia of this deck, being a Baby Boomer. Its anyone using it? It so how do you like reading reading wth it. I just purchased it and did a Dewitt interview on it. I four court cards.in the 4 card reading. Two Cups. One Pentacles, and one Swords. Two setting and two make cards. So it works seem that deck will with deal with relationship issues--the two cup cards seem to mean it is good with love/ emotional issues. Misterei mentioned in the pet companions thread about another cat deck. I have never found a cat deck I really wanted to read with. Some GORGEOUS cat decks out there, but as I am a reader, not a collector, it has presented a dilemma for me. I follow RWS decks, so it has to be an easily readable, as in each card CLEARLY what it should symbolize, without having it too distracting with cats (love those cats!). I hope if independent or large deck publishers are reading threads here, more cat decks will be forthcoming.
