I finally made a pouch for my Herbal Tarot Deck!  I've had the fabric for ages and only just got round to doing it 😆

I'm not gonna describe the process, but if anyone has any questions or wants to know how I made but I'll share if asked.

All done on a sewing machine.

This is gorgeous! Is it a cotton fabric?

Yes, just some nice quilting cotton. The outer layer is a thick cotton and the inner is thinner.  But it makes a nice pairing 😊

@stephanelli that looks amazing! I love that there is plant detail on everything, outer fabric, lining AND button! Nice job!

Thanks 😊

It's like it was planned 😉. Past me knew what she was doing.

Okay, so you noted that I was speaking (earlier in the thread) about making a reading cloth with a nice velvet fabric (peacock blue), and... radio silence, no news, no pic.

Yes... it was a disaster 😄

But it's not my fault, really!! The velvet was too flexible, impossible to make a straight line, these things (this made me near crazy!).

Well, actually there are several qualities with velvet, I didn't know and chose one that didn't fit a reading cloth. That's life!

Unfortunately I didn't keep it, thinking there was no solution, but this fusible fabric stabilizer could have been one, indeed. Well...

Keep trying?
Or just purchase something and be done with it, lol. Most actual spreadcloths on the market are cheesy, but a small cloth wall tapestry would do the job, with no sewing required.  😉 And then there are scarves, placemats...

Yeah, I won't give up like that!

Actually I found a piece of very decorative fabric (a bit like a tapestry maybe), it's velvet, but polyester -and not flexible at all- so I guess this could give something for a reading cloth!

I add a pic below, I haven't begun yet though (it's among my projects between silicon molds and colored candles) 😄

I like that! The print is like a mashup of art nouveau and TdM. 😁

It looks like a Morris wallpaper design - is it ?

It looked like art nouveau for me too; I used my google-fu, and yes @gregory, you are right, this pattern seems inspired by William Morris art work, more, it seems a sort of copy of something I found out online:

Printed textiles are bomb. I recently got a big wall hanging of Rousseau's Snake Charmer. I like Rousseau, he was nuts: "These lotus flowers would look better if they were humongous and they went way up in the air like trees!" No tree lotuses in this one, just a heron/stork/flamingo with a duck bill. 😆 (Or maybe it's some kind of spoonbill and it actually exists?) And the light seems to be coming from different directions. It definitely nails the river vibe, though, and it does that better than something more realistic would.

And as for Morris, I wish I had $295 to burn on a footstool: https://www.scullyandscully.com/furniture/seating/benches-ottomans-stools/tapestry-footstools/morris-hare-tapestry-footstools.axd?gclid=Cj0KCQjw-af6BRC5ARIsAALPIlWFLKW-l_1uCzBth14ZxhGnqZeNcfdIJVYOD-ialZ0_Rv5NmhOBu8MaAsOGEALw_wcB

And wallpaper. I miss patterned wallpaper!

Who needs a footstool? (even for less) 😁

I really like William Morris design, but not for a wallpaper maybe because really over-ornate. It would be great for cushions imo.

Otherwise Rousseau is great.

Footstools are dumb and I'd completely forgotten they existed until I saw that one.
It's pretty. And I could lay cards on it!

For wallpaper you'd need muted colors.
I'm trying to picture the more colorful wallpapers with my stuff, and it would be a bit much with the Rousseau, the giant red prayer flag, the mint green metal absinthe sign, the 1930's movie posters...you get the picture. I could live with it but some folks might get headachey. 😁

I can't sew, unless it's straight lines.  But during the week I set to making 5 tarot bags and matching reading cloths for a few of my decks (old and new).  I even have a spare bag and cloth for my next purchase.

They really work in huge homes, even the dark ones.

A friend has some William Morris wallpaper in her living room and looks lovely, it is a large room though and I think it's just the one wall.

Those are STUNNING.
Part of pulling it off is having a big room, yes. The other part is minimalism...there's nothing else ON the walls, though I suppose you could get away with a single big painting, nicely framed.

I love this thread and you've inspired me to break out my sewing machine and use my rudimentary skills to make a bag for my new tarot deck (which is one a @PathWalker patchwork deck). I think i'll try and make some more later in the week 🙂 It's just plain, cotton, not lined - i'll try to do a lined one next time. I watched some online videos but in the end just made it up as I went along...

I think I am going to make a nice pouch with my Morris design velvet fabric for the Fantastic Menagerie Tarot I'll hopefully receive this month.

Hoping, hoping 🙂
