As for the woman, I tried to make her and the throne bigger, however, the compass in the background gets obstructed then unless I shift her off the middle, which is not a good thing, and it is a rather important symbol for me. I am considering forgetting about curtain and columns completely,as the throne alone is already imposing. I think you could likely remove the curtains and the columns without losing too much of the symbolism. There’s plenty there already and you have a clear vision you’re working from
Arania Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Yeah, I will do that. I kept them mostly out of a sense for the traditional.

Still a lot of coloring to do (that snake needs some bright colors - there is so much green and brown in the drawing already), but thought I'd be a tease once again! She is rising up from a mountain (essentially her "skirt"), and her hair will be made of tree branches. Sorry for the low-res photo. I wish my phone took better pics. I absolutely LOVE this concept! Cannot wait to see it finished , please do not deprive me of seeing the finished version of this.

There is still so much time left to do the write up and make any adjustments. So you go claim that second card! I just claimed the Five of Water! It will be very different from the Five of Earth and in fact it's almost done!

I think I'll face the old guy the other way again and should I make his background gray? Your help has really improved this Pentacle. I'm having so much fun! Yes, I like the second pentacle better, but maybe he could be somewhere in between those sizes. And yes, I like him facing out, away from the family, too. And I agree with you about making his background grey; he would appear more isolated if it were grey, perhaps slightly darker than the color of his jacket. The family takes up more space so they are more visible, which is great. And I like their yellow background a lot. Would you consider tilting the pentacle a bit more clockwise (like the first one) so that one does not need to tilt the head so much to see the family? Okay, I will stop picking nits now! Your card will be really thought-provoking to any who uses this deck! Edited February 5, 2020 by geoxena
Grandma Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 @geoxena I love your dedication. Are you a teacher? I've made my choices and some of your suggestions are among them. I hope you'll like the finished card. Now I would be grateful if you and anyone else can comment on my Five of Water - the concept the art, and how you read this card.

It will be very different from the Five of Earth and in fact it's almost done! That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! finish your cards and claim your 3rd and final card! 😅 @GrandmaI am not quite sure I getting the 5 of Water. The man and child leaving makes me think 8 of Water. I do not really see the loss, sadness or despair. I do see that one cup has not spilled, but being that it is tossed up in the air with no one and nothing to catch it, it will spill when it falls. I associate the 5 of Cups to be brooding or pining over the sadness in total despair to a point that you cannot see the good even it is right there with you. I see the card as really feeling sorry for oneself closing everything else off and refusing to even look at anything positive. A very self absorbed type of way of dealing with the loss, sadness or despair. I am guessing the child is that good in this card, but he is holding her hand and she walks beside him which means to me that he is aware of it. Not sure if I am making sense here or not, and again, that is my own personal take of the card so do feel free to ignore my ramblings if they do not correspond to your interpretation of that card. P.S. as to how I would read this card: I would read it as walking away from emotional upheaval or chaos with sadness but also with hope (the child). Edited February 5, 2020 by Jewel
Grandma Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Hmmmmm thank you @Jewel for your honest notes - I'll rethink this. It really seems to miss the mark but you've given me some ideas. The right side up cup is actually meant to be an upside down tankard but I totally see your point. I'll change that out for something more obvious. And the man and child had better go. I'll look for a sad and despairing image for that spot. Does the idea of the tears mixing to form a river make sense? That's meant to symbolize the commonality of despair, regret and loss, and I agree that those qualities do not come across. And don't worry about making sense, you always do! Love, Grandma

Yes that idea does resonate, but I would include that symbolism in the write up for good measure. I think a key to the 5 of cups is also that not being able to see the good around you due to the despair, loss, regret, etc. And thank you for your kind words, my spousal unit often tells me I make no sense so I thought in my rambling I might have lost what I was trying to say. FYI ... I edited my previous post and added how I would interpret the card you posted. I am really excited to see how your concept evolves I know the card will be great. I really think you knocked it out of the park with your 5 of Earth so I am sure when you are done your 5 of Water will be awesome! Edited February 5, 2020 by Jewel

However, I didn't realize that is a river of tears in your card. I love the colors and modern, slightly abstract design of your card! It's really cool. My first thought upon seeing it: "Lots of emotions pouring down, and someone walks sadly away." I thought, also, that the person was walking away from something good because all that water can be nourishing and life-saving. That's what I got from it, but I'm not sure how helpful it is.

I had thought of using eyes for the cups, hence tears, but switched to drinking vessels so the drops are water or whatever else one drinks. Sorry about that. I agree with @Jewel that the walking away element is more Eight of Water than Five. I'll change the figures out for something that makes the despair and regret of the Five evident. I love the way you read the card. That's what it says all right for sure but it's not exactly what I need it to say. I'm glad you like the design. And you were very helpful!

That's what it says all right for sure but it's not exactly what I need it to say. I have to brush up on the traditional meanings because I mostly read intuitively nowadays and a lot of what I knew is hazy in my memory. From what I recall of the 5 of cups, there's an element of focusing on loss (3 overturned cups in RWS) at the expense of the good things one still has (figure's back turned away from 2 upright cups). Is that something you want to depict as well? I'm sure there are more levels to this card than what I'm remembering, but I guess I'm not sure what you're going for. Edited February 5, 2020 by geoxena

Grandma Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I feel like I'm getting closer. The fuzzy white lines need cleaning up, and there's too much sky, but in general I'm feeling better about it.

And yes, I can definitely see the 5 of cups energy. But there is more to this image. It is like if those tears might have even watered the flower and it is now there for them to enjoy, but they walked away too quickly or didn't pay enough attention to notice it before. But the thing is that the vase still stands and the flowers have not yet gone to waste. Someone else might still find them and treasure them.
Grandma Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 (edited) I LOVE your reading of this card, @Raggydoll. This is probably the final version below. I realize that the design goes to the edges but this is just the actual content area so that's okay. @geoxena I need you!! What do you think? I was just reading your PM about my Five of Earth. What a relief that if meets specifications and that you were able to correct the resolution. The preview you sent me makes me feel like a real collage artist. May I pick my third card now please? Excitedly and feeling quite proud of myself, Grandma Ooh I just noticed a drop that needs to be moved because it will not land in the river and I might overlap the flowers over the water a little more but basically, barring any suggestions that I like, I'm done! Grandma Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Thank you @Starlight. I can't claim credit for the line drawing - I can't draw at all. I purchased the license from a website for that and for much of the work on my first card. But I was lucky to find an image that as you noted does show the despondency. I did do everything else on this card myself though, using PowerPoint, Microsoft Paint and Paint 3D. It was fun doing different styles in the two cards. I hope to come up with something else new and different for my third card.

Annabelle Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I've made a couple of false starts on my card, but the other day at work I ran into something that gave me fresh inspiration. The student workers have been creating an art journal recently, and one of them drew himself in a way that made me suddenly see him as the Hierophant/Sage. I'm thinking of asking him if he'd mind (off the official work-day clock, of course, though I will gladly pay him out of pocket if he wishes) allowing me to "stage" him in a photograph for the Sage card. I do have a question, though, related to the prospect of photographing others. We aren't going to be selling copies of this, are we? If I need to get some kind of signed release from anyone who serves as a "model," I can -- I just want to know sooner than later.

As is stated in the big info thread : yes this deck will be uploaded and sold via printerstudio. It is a company that prints decks on demand and anyone will be able to purchase a copy of this deck. You can find more information in the thread that I linked. So you may want to share that link with them and have them look at the project and then see if they wish to participate 🙂

I don't think that errant drop is a problem - it's clear the drops are going into the river. If it bugs you, though, change it; alternatively, you could add a few more circles below it and above the flowers, which would make a slight bend in the river. One minor thing - I liked the vessels with the stronger white outline. I know it was a ragged line and that's why you fixed it, but just wondering if there's a way to keep the thicker outline and have it smooth. But it doesn't need the outline for this card to make its impact - it came out great and I'm being really nitpicky. PS, it's so nice to be needed! EDIT: You know what, Grandma? I just looked at it again and want to say Don't change a thing!!!! Seriously, it's a really awesome card as it is. Edited February 6, 2020 by geoxena
