@Grandma The larger one, does it have the safety margins?

And the one thing that I still think is the case, is that it looks more like a court card than a minor. Like if he could have been one of the Elders of the deck. But please do wait to hear what the others has to say.

@Raggydoll I forgot about the margins but I maybe I can adjust.  Now my other three cards have details almost to or right to the edges and they are exactly the same size as this one.  They all look fine at your end, don't they?

Also, if I do continue with this card, is there enough of my own work on it now?

I like the card, @Grandma, but the gorgeous gentlemen reminds me more of a court card, a king. That would be my first thought if I turned over a card with him on it.

For me the 2 says that it's the beginning of a journey and the fact that the gentleman is older and is in the middle of his journey (as per your explanation) throws the meaning off a bit for me. There's no reason why an older person couldn't start a journey as well, but then there's the image of the younger him which makes it seem like it's not the beginning of the older man's journey.

It's a tough one. I know you love the image and I'm just trying to think of ways to use it while also making it clear that he's not a court card. I'm happy to share any thoughts with you, if you think that would help?

All you need to do for margins is shrink the oval with the guy in a bit.  I do get what Starlight means about his age, though. Is there a simpler image of a younger person ?

Here's the kind of thing - from wiki commons: there are many others

A technical point - when it's printed, it will be card sized, and some of the detail in the background will be hard to see - maybe darken the background some ?(Very rough example.)

Most of them had to be tweaked to make them work. I sent you pm updates on it, so you could go and check. Particularly the 5 of water had that problem, I sent you two suggestions that you chose from 🙂 And then you revised the image. I believe I had to tweak the revised version too, because it either had details too close to the edges and/or wasn’t the exact format needed. Your first card already had a border to it, i believe. The third one you asked gregory to fix and she did. So all those are fine now.

I believe it’s enough of your original work but we could double check with @Little Fang

Please have a look at this Emperor. Methinks it's a bit too busy now. I have another, quieter Emperor in work, so don't feel shy to tell the cruel truth 🙂

I like it too but if you’d like me to do a preview to show what it would look like as a card then I’m happy to do that for you @Nemia , just pm me the file! You decide if you make that preview public or not.

I will, thank you! I'm re-sizing it to the proportions you specified right now.

Lovely - not too busy at all - nicely balanced and lots of lovely symbolism.

Grandma, I did like your first alternative (the one I misread). I like the portrait too, although the man himself is hard to analyse - what we can see of his body looks strong and in the prime of life yet his face seems older - not so old as to be looking though the partly open door, although in his era life expectancy was certainly shorter and he'd probably be considered elderly. I kinda wish you'd keep that version, as I won't forget it (having read it that way), and I do like your latest too, but please be guided by your feelings (as I'm pretty sure you will).

I really love the way they look!  I added a hazy finish to give the card a soft gentle look.  My Two of Fire is deservedly resting.

Now tell me the truth - if it doesn't work I need to know and I will not be offended.

Love, Grandma

Grandma, I love the third version.  I don't think it needs to be a younger man at all.  We don't have to align our cards with "traditional" meanings.  From the beginning, we were told that different views and traditions are welcome. So, keep it, I say!  Regarding layout and fitting into the template's safe area, maybe all you need to do is add some kind of border design around it to fit.

Hi, I suppose there is a way to get pm's but I have no idea how to get to them. I was wondering about Raggy Doll's email address for my card, it's ready to be forwarded. If I missed something my apologies!

@Perenelle I already posted it the last time you asked:  weareone@thetarotforum.com

I will pm you the address too, so you learn how the PMs work. You’ll only have to press reply then 😊

@Grandma I really love the most recent version of the card! I love your description and the haze to the back, the leaves overtop him as well. I think @Pen gave an interpretation that was closest to my own and I felt it fit great with that you've done here too. I also am a big lover of the cards portrayed as people so I don't get the court card feel from him. One of my favourite decks has the 2 of Wands portrayed by a portrait of Persephone from renaissance times in a similar style to yours so I find no issue with his being a figure. I love the idea of looking at this card through the eyes of an older person and their view of the roads they've taken and will take in life. Really wonderful concept in my opinion! I think the only issue I have is what @gregory brought up about the technical issue with the size of the cards and the background fading in. @Raggydoll, if this design is approved by Little Fang, I saw you offered to show Nemia a mockup of their card as how it will look in the print. Would it be possible to do this for Grandma too if she'd like? To see how the card will look if the technical aspect ends up being the only worry?

@Nemia your emperor is fantastic! He has these things surrounding him, and he really doesn't care! He will take it all into consideration if it seems necessary, but then laser focus in past all of it to make the final call. That's the feeling I get from him when surrounded by everything like that at least. For me, the test of the Emperor is not how long order is held, but how well chaos is handled. Your card hits me with that idea and I love it!

@Thoughtful, thank you for you kind comment on my 5 of Fire! I was raised in circles that practiced a lot of nudity and because of this I grew up seeing many more sides to nudity than just the sexual, and so nude imagery appears a lot in my art in regards to vulnerability, like you said, as well as openness, honesty, trust, newness, defenselessness, etc. A whole host of things! I'm glad in this instance you saw that side of it. I feel like the 5 of Wands is very vulnerable. If a just a dash of corruption or ill intent was added to the discourse in the SRW card, that defensive battle the figures are in could turn into a blood bath easily.

@Pen Thank you for your words on my card as well. Once I get drawing there's no use stopping me, but I really take my time on the concepts for the designs before. Right now I'm fishing around for background ideas, as I continue to chug along.

Absolutely! I would do a mock up for anyone here. So @Grandma if you want me to do that for you, just let me know!

Well hello my little rag doll granddaughter.  I was about to submit this post when a notification that you had commented popped up.  I absolutely love that we were typing to the same thread, you to me and others and me to you and others.  Here's what I said:

Thank you all, my dear friends.  I am not an artist, rather a craftsperson working with art, and the process of making four cards with your help has taught me so much, and provided camaraderie and fun.

Tomorrow I am going to rework the card, treating each element according a synthesis of your ideas and my own.  I must say though that the only portrait I will consider using is the one I've been using.  A few years ago I made a deck of 78 pieces of art that embodied tarot cards.  This was, is, and I dare say always will be, my  Two of Fire!

And PS to Raggydoll - thank you.  I'll let you know.  You have already helped me so much and so patiently.  You are the heart of We Are One.

Everyone here - would you do me a favour ? This (below) was the second time I had posted the email address for Perenelle as she'd asked once before. She missed that, didn't check to see if there was a response, and asked again. The second I posted this - moments after she asked - she had left again (If only she had just stayed long enough to see if anyone had responded....) It seems she doesn't know how to see PMs either.

If you see her in thread - PLEASE QUOTE HER THE ADDRESS as fast as you can !

If we all work together, maybe she will see it in the end, and we can have her card in the deck.

Thank you for all the helpful feedback! I haven't touched art materials in a long time, though I enjoyed crafts - I didn't feel I could return to it, but here I am. It's going to be a very interesting deck. I love seeing the different takes on different cards.

This is the current and hopefully last final version, as in the song "Give Me Just One More Last Chance".

As always, suggestions welcome.  Barring anything drastic, this is my Two of Fire.  The small pictures are well within the bleed lines and the bottom can bleed.

Looking good, Grandma. But if you CAN up the contrast, I think it would be even better..

Here it is with maximum contrast on the small pictures, first with haze over just the Two himself. and second with no haze.

Shall I do mock ups with both versions and then you can decide? If so, send me a pm!
