Your artwork is AMAZING! and thank you for the compliment on the Novice of Air concept. @Day SoleilI had not realized that each of us is doing 2 Novices 😊 how cool is that! @Starlight, @joy & @Raggydollthank you guys so much for your comments. I am super excited about the Novice of Air. Never thought I would ever be excited about an Air/Swords card, I seem to struggle with the personalities of these courts more than those of any other suit. Perhaps they are a little sharp around the edges for a water person like me , but this Novice was calling out to me. Hermoine Granger from Harry Potter is the inspiration behind her! 😆 Good hearted, smart, clever, but sometimes acts like a little miss know-it-all, and relies on books and her keen intellect. Hermoine is my favorite character, and a wonderful inspiration for this card.

But I am by no means anything beyond a Novice, I guess we can say that I "dabble" in air but that is about the extent of it 😆. I think I have trouble with the detachment I associate with this element.
geoxena Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 @Jewel, regardless of their elements, both your Novices are quite sassy, so I suspect you are, too! 😄

I'm so glad you said "her." I was going for an androgynous not-sure-what-gender look, but my Hermit came out a bit too male for that, I thought. The picture I posted here isn't high resolution like what we have to submit, so it's probably hard to tell that the star is actually a charm dangling off the back of the Hermit's green cap. The Hermit is clothed while kneeling before the mirror but their reflection is naked to represent truths about the self coming out of the darkness. Edited January 29, 2020 by geoxena

Actually I was able tell it was charm, and did find your Hermit to be androgynous so I think you accomplished what you set out to do 😊. ~giggles about the sassy comment~ ... in my younger days perhaps, I have matured a bit since (or so I tell myself ). To me it was very important to give these Novices some personality. Court cards can be some of the toughest cards for people to learn to read and I am trying to do my part to convey their personalities to make them fun to read. I associate the sassyness with their youth and enthusiasm, and am trying to aim the sassyness in a manner that reflects the element they come from. They have really been fun cards to conceptualize, I am so glad I chose them 😊 @Raggydollis there any way you can take my picture of the Novice of Water and put her in card format to get an idea of what she might look like as a card? I know the resolution stinks, but I am curious.

Grandma Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 (edited) Wonderful work, everyone! You are all so talented. It would be difficult catch up with specific remarks at this point but I will comment on new posts hereon out. Since I can't draw a straight line and my infamous cartoons are a little too primitive for my vision here, I will be doing a collage Five of Earth. The five clods of earth will be represented by yin yang symbols. I couldn't find a ready made Birth/Death to my liking so I'm putting one together myself. I've blocked out most of the images here because I haven't purchased them yet. If I have left enough recognizable work to violate copyright, moderators let me know and I'll delete the image. Right now and subject to change I'm thinking of an ancient Chinese farmer sitting next to the five yin yangs as the main focus of the card. Edited January 29, 2020 by Grandma

This is going to be a unique and very cool take on the card. I was so inspired doing the Novice of Air that I could not put her down!!!! 😆 I will be sending her off for digital touches along with the Novice of Water next week, but I am done with her. Yes I could fiddle more, but I need to make myself stop before I ruin her . Here she is: Edited January 29, 2020 by Jewel
Grandma Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Thank you @Raggydoll and @Jewel - I'm quite excited about this deck and my part in it. Jewel, your Novice of Air looks enthralled with the world of ideas and knowledge - perfect!

I am so glad you joined in, love the idea of having tarot cards designed by my friends! 😊 Thank you for your comments regarding the Novice of Air, you got what I was going for! As noted in an earlier post, my inspiration for her personality was Hermoine from Harry Potter 🤣

I carried the background color into her wings so they would have a hint of purple. The rest is colored pencils with some minor detailing in white and black ink. I will admit, the wings were giving me fits! 🤣 trying to make something appear translucent is hard! I was so glad I was able to pull it off.

Jewel Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) OK this project has just had me all kinds of inspired so I requested to do a third card 🤣 ... I wanted to keep the trend of doing cards from different elements as I love that the suits are the elements. Here is my concept for my steady, persistent, dedicated, industrious, hard working, and loyal Explorer of Earth: I could think of no better mount for this hard working Explorer than the industrious ant! In service to his kingdom or element in this case, no task to big or too small for him. Though tiny he may be, he gets the job done every time! And yes, if need be, he can lead an army of ants! I will most likely not get around to coloring him until next week, but at least I got the concept out of my head before I lost it! 😆 Edited January 30, 2020 by Jewel
Raggydoll Posted January 30, 2020 Author Posted January 30, 2020 I am not sure if anyone has had the chance to notice it just yet, but Little Fang has made us a brand new hangout area for all of our personal deck creation projects: https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/forum/166-deck-creators-lounge/ You can either have a public thread where you feature your cards for everyone to see, or you can opt for a personal journal that is only visible to members. In there you can also write about your thoughts and your experiences as you go through the process. I chose the second alternative. So if any of you feel like following me on this crazy endeavor, now you can!

I think the ant is the perfect representation for your card and I can't wait to see it rendered in color!!
Jewel Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 @RaggydollI have no idea why or how this idea came to mind, but when I saw this card was available the concept popped into my head immediately so I knew I had to request to do this card and see if I could bring it life. I also made sure the ant is within a little more than 1" of the borders so loosing stuff on the sides is no big deal 😆
