Hello! This new section of the forum is dedicated to beginner-level discussion of the Lenormand. This is the place to post basic questions about the cards and how to read them. Answers in these threads should be kept brief and easy to understand for the benefit of those just starting out with Lenormand. Please keep more technical and complex discussions in the main Lenormand section. For example, discussions about the differences between reading traditions, pip suit analysis, and the Grand Tableau should be kept over there. For detailed discussion of individual cards and their symbolism, please post those in the new Lenormand C…

1. What's the difference between Lenormand and other divination systems? There are a few key differences. Lenormand cards are read in a much more literal way than other systems. Each card has a number of set meanings, which do not change based on the question being asked. Cards are always read in combinations with each other, not individually as one would do in a tarot or other oracle card reading. The order of the cards can also change the interpretation. It is advised to think of reading a 'string' of Lenormand cards as a sentence, with each card being a word or short phrase within that sentence. Answers from the Lenormand are generally more direct and to the point…

This is far beyond my skillset ... but I've seen tutorials and read books that mention the "houses" in the GT [i.e. Rider is first house and Cross is #36 house according to the deck itself]. But I can't remember anyone mentioning if its significant when a card falls in its own house. Does this strengthen the card? Make it more positive? Or? Doesn't matter?

Hello! 🙂 Longtime tarot reader, comfortable with oracle decks... never really stuck out the Lenormand system. It is my current curiosity and my current project! I am trying to get better, so I am doing daily draws. Yesterday, I pulled Child + Anchor. I get that really, these cards should point to something such as “held down by inexperience,” or, my first thought, “work taking care of children.” (I do not usually see children in my life.) But what I realized it is relevant to... is that I watched Disney’s Peter Pan. 🙈 Kids and anchors in that film for sure, LOL. Surely the draw wasn’t connecting to that, right…

As I move through learning Lenormand, there's a big concept I'm having trouble understanding and I'm hoping more experienced readers can help. How do you incorporate a card as timing rather than meaning? I understand the mechanics of a card's timing, I just don't know how to read a card as such, or when to read a card as timing. All help appreciated!

What do you do when the spreads you throw don't make sense in regards to the questions asked and/or the context of the situations? And what I mean by that last bit is this: say you lay down The House - The Ring - The Letter for a daily draw re: "What is going to happen to me, today?" You already have a residential lease you signed, maybe months or more ago. You're not really expecting to have to move soon. There's been no-to-little reason for you to expect documents/communications related to housing to come (whether it be about repairs, something in the lease agreement, violations, etc.). Come to think of it, you're not really in another situation that would r…

Hi, I been going over in my mind to take first third of the 4x9 grand tableu to look at the past of the sitter. With the third party rule in place I can only think of two of 3 possible topics as they deal with the past. This would 12 cards instead of your 3x3, be 4x3 1. The actual past. How does my past affect me. I think most people know their past though so they are focused more on present and future by default. suppose one could ask for a past analysis 2. The past life While this is more subjective, it would be more what specific past life affects me most. Rather then what issues from them all affec…

So... Mice. They nibble and gnaw at any card. My question is, how do you know what all the mice are destroying? For example, I drew a three-card line today for a question, “Should I resurrect paying for a certain service?” I drew Coffin - Mice - Bouquet The Coffin (the dead, dormant service I am no longer paying for) is modified by the Mice. So perhaps it should be resurrected, which would be the Bouquet? OR! Perhaps the service itself is not a good idea to pay for, and the Mice are chewing away at the Coffin and also the Bouquet, because it is the middle card (adjacent to both). I struggle with knowing how to ap…

I was wondering if anyone would take pity on a total Lenormand newbie and help me out with a draw that, to my untrained eye, anyway, contains a degree of irritating ambiguity? I'm also out of practice with all things cartomancy, so please bear with me. Here we go: I've recently received an offer of part time work. It's what you might call a side-hustle. The money's not amazing, but it would be useful. Fine. Problem is, while I do have previous relevant experience, I haven't worked in this particular field for well over a decade. Thusly, I'm concerned whether or not I'll even be up to the task. So, I asked the cards, would this job work out for me …

So, I said to myself that after getting Normal Gold, I wasn't going to get anymore decks. However, after getting suggested lenormand decks both on here and Kickstarter, and seeing it come up on my social media, I'm super curious about it and am kind of thinking about finding one. But I can't find any information about the lenormand style online beyond the card meaning individually. I wanna find out more about it before I buy (or make, which is an option also) a deck. Do you guys know any good websites to look at for beginners or good resource posts on here?

So, pulling two cards out at random from the mystical Lenormand, I get Storks and the Horse Rider. (This isn't an actual reading, just an example to see if I have the right idea.) So could that be along the lines of the changes being kickstarted by some good news? But it would be different if they were the other way round? Struggling a bit with this!

Hello, I'm always surprised by how little is said about the way cards are pulled. To me it seems almost the most important - I feel I suck at pulling cards. With Tarot that feeling has passed, but it's a hefty deck and somehow, overhand shuffle than cut in two, restack and pick from the top is ok. With Lenormand, I'm not sure. I don't like the fan version. So what is your way of doing it ? Do you fan out your deck and choose one by one ? For larger spreads it seems a long process. Do you shuffle, cut, restack ? Do you cut in three piles and select one from each (and in which order then ?) Curious to see how you feel about pull…

Hey everyone. I have a quick question about timing in grand tableaus. To give a bit of background, I normally use the houses technique in my GT readings (not the near-far method) and would separate my tableaus into past-present-future segments if I'm not reading for a specific question/ time-frame. For timing, I've been experimenting with the technique I read about first in Rana George's book, i.e. using time signs. She explains that when you've located the significator, you'll then find a focus card which represents the situation you're asking about and count the spaces between the two; if said card is to the right of the significator, then we're looking at the…

Hi! I'm new to Lenormand and I have/and am reading Andy's book 36 cards and Björns Meuris first book. I´m searching for a book that deep dives more into the meanings and combinations of the cards. Could you perhaps point me in the right direction? Both books can refer to a card or a pair, and say "If this pair comes up it can mean this or that" That sort of information. I get frustrated because I want more information about it. It is like Saying A and never B. Do you get what I mean?

While I'm reading Andy's book. Talking about the cards, he talks of the essence they have. Now, I would really like the same for when the cloud is coming into the picture and influences all the cards. I noticed in one place in the book the cloud changes the star meaning to "bad luck". I would like to know this with all the cards. a little wish/request I have.

Hi everyone, I have a question about interpreting positive cards that fall right after negative ones. Just looking at such a progression, I want to say that, after some problems, things will get better. But many cards have specific negative meanings attached to their right side (the Coffin, the Mice, the Mountain). Other cards emphasize their right side as the main point of attack (in my deck - the Clouds, the Scythe, the Snake). For example, a couple of days ago I had an otherwise positive line ending with Snake - Heart. The Heart is positive on its own, but the Snake was biting right into it, and I didn’t know what to make of it. So should I just…

Hello everyone I have a question about Lenormand (I just heard yesterday from another group) . Can someone use lenormand to get a future connection again which the lenormand said it won’t happen anymore??? I know it sounds a bit confusing, so I will explain the situation too. I hope I don't bother everyone with this question, but since I'm still new in the field, I think there's a lot I don't know about too. More precisely, a girl from another group said that she was curious about the connection between her and a man (which hasn’t appeared in her life yet). At first, the cards said that this man will appear in her life, but then because she asked too much que…

I have opened my deck of Lenormand, and the cards are beautiful! I am not ready to start exchanging readings with them yet, although I am very fond of learning by doing. So where do I start? With a three card spread? Do I follow the same shuffle routine as I have with Tarot? I AM SO EXCITED! Any pointers or hints to start me off would be very appreciated <3

So I saw Lisas vid here: Is she saying that Andy and Caitlins distance methods is not the pure traditional method of distance? Can someone please explain this to me. What do you think about it?

Since I been doing daily draws with the Lenormand, I realize that it straight out tells you what’s going to happen. I don’t find it cryptic but it’s like trying to figure out the correct answer. For instance some of it can be literal. ex. clover + fish a small fortune. where some I’m left confused Ex. snake + tree medicine that’s contraband? I find it fascinating as well you really do have to analyze your day to figure out where the cards are at play. I do admit at times I let the my own combination influence me only to realize it means something different 🫣 Also for some reason I feel that this is more strai…

hi! i'm learning lenny. i've asked someone to read for me. my question was "what does M want to communicate to me?" M is my bf who has been non-communicative. we're not broken-up but we're in limbo. the limbo has to do with his fear of his feelings for me as he's expressed significant ones, and other life changes and family issues. he's overwhelmed. just some back story for the basis of my question. also, i had another lenny a few days where i asked "what are M's feelings for me?" and got: fish + heart + tree + ring + house the interpretation i got was, "amazing! he feels love and a connection, a very strong karmic connection to you. There couldn’t be better …

I've recently started to try and get back into learning Lenormand and am having difficulties understanding how to interpret yes/no questions. I've noticed reading through some of the posts here which are yes/no questions, that they are answered by reading the cards. I had read some authors don't interpret the cards in Lenormand, rather, they count the number of positive v negative cards to elicit an answer. I'm consequently finding this a bit confusing. Should they be read like a story and the outcome of the story giving an indication of yes or no, or should one not interpret the cards drawn at all, and only focus on whether they are positive or negative? …

Interested to hear your thoughts on this one folks. I’m very new at Lenormand, as you know. I’d like to keep a journal to record my understanding of the cards over time. How would you go about organising this? I was thinking of setting aside a few pages per card - one for each card on its own, plus sections for card combinations. I don’t know if that would work in practise or if I’m setting myself up for overwhelm. I’m already keeping a journal here now that I’m trying out daily readings, as I thought it would be easier to keep it searchable. But I really like having offline journals for things too. What do you think? 🙂
